2012 Dhaka fire

The fire in the Tazreen - clothing factory took place on 24 November 2012 in the outskirts of the capital of Bangladesh Dhaka.

The fire was the worst so far in a textile factory in Bangladesh. At least 117 people were killed and injured more than 200 people. The factory, which belonged to Tuba Group, produced clothing, among other things, the U.S. Navy, C & A, Walmart and Li & Fung.

Reactions

Prime Minister Hasina Wajed expressed dismay at the calamity and exclaimed one days of national mourning; she suspected in the fire, an act of sabotage. Thousands of workers marched in Bangladesh, built barriers, thus preventing an ordered production to continue.

Walmart ended in the wake cooperation with Tazreen.
