2012 Grand Slam of Darts
The William Hill Grand Slam of Darts 2012 was held from 10th to 18th November at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton and organized by the PDC.
In addition to 26 players from the PDC which six players of the competing Dartverbands BDO had been invited.
It was played in eight groups of four, in each of which the two first place winners for the final round of the top 16 players qualified.
Defending champion was the English world champion Phil Taylor, but in the second round with 5:10 lost to Dutchman Michael van Gerwen.
Through a 16:14 - final win against his fellow countryman Michael van Gerwen, the Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld won the tournament for the first time.
Prizes
The total amount of undistributed prize money was £ 400,000.
Qualification
Unlike other tournaments, the qualification criteria directed not by ranking placements, but after wins, final and semi-final appearances at the major tournaments of the PDC and the BDO World Championship in the years before. Due to three consecutive rejections in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, the PDC decided to no longer invite the BDO World Champion Martin Adams.
