2012 UEFA Women's U-17 Championship

The fifth U-17 Football Championship Women was held in the period from June 26 to 29, 2012 in Nyon ( Switzerland ). Venue was the Centre sportif de Colovray. Game were eligible players who were born on January 1, 1995 or later.

Qualification

The European Championship was held in three stages. In two qualifying rounds, the four participants were identified in the final round.

In the first qualifying round, the 42 teams entered the participants played in ten groups of four teams each in the second qualifying round. However, the two nations with the highest UEFA coefficient ( Germany and the Netherlands) had a bye for the second qualifying round. Within each group played each team once against each other in the form of mini-tournaments, which were held on various dates between 19 September and 22 October 2011. One of the four participating teams of each group served as the host of this mini-tournament. A victory was rewarded with three points, a draw one point.

The group winners and four best runners qualified for the second qualifying round. In determining the best runners only the games against the group winners and third parties have been considered. The 16 remaining teams were again divided by lot into four groups of four teams each. The mode was identical to the first qualifying round. The games took place in the time from March 19 to May 1, 2012 in Norway, Spain, Belgium and Denmark. The group winners of the four mini-tournaments qualified for the final tournament. In this case, Germany was able to beat defending champion Spain.

Mode

The four teams determined the European champions in the knockout system. The winners of the semifinals reached the final and played the European champions. The losers play for third place. A game lasted regularly twice 40 minutes. Stand it as a draw at the end of normal time so the decision was made directly on penalties without prior extension. The two finalists qualify for the U -17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2012.
