The Grand Prix of Germany 2013 ( official Formula 1 Grosser Preis Santander from Germany in 2013 ) took place on July 7 at the Nürburgring in Nürburg and was the ninth race of the Formula 1 season 2013.

Background

After the Grand Prix of Great Britain Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' championship with 21 points ahead of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen with 34 points ahead. Red Bull -Renault resulted in the constructors' championship with 48 points ahead of Mercedes and with 51 points ahead of Ferrari.

The Grand Prix of Germany moved by rotation at the Hockenheimring Baden- Württemberg on the Nürburgring.

At the Grand Prix of Germany presented Pirelli riders the tire compounds P Zero medium ( white) and P Zero soft (yellow) as well as for wet Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue ) are available. After the tire problems in the previous race Pirelli brought for this event with new rear tire, which contained a belt made ​​of Kevlar instead of steel belt. Training

In the first free practice session, the two Mercedes drivers drove the fastest lap. This Hamilton was faster than Nico Rosberg. The third fastest lap achieved Webber. In the second free practice Vettel took the lead ahead of Rosberg and his team-mate Webber. Bianchi returned to the Marussia, but he broke the training of health reasons prematurely.

In the third free practice session, the order remained unchanged in the first three positions.

Qualifying

In the first part of qualifying, Felipe Massa was the fastest. The Marussia, Caterham and Williams driver dropped out. In the second segment Massa remained in front. The Force India pilots and Jean- Éric Vergne, Esteban Gutierrez, Sergio Perez and Nico Rosberg retired from. In the final section of Hamilton put the fastest time and achieved the pole position ahead of Vettel and Webber.

Race

Vettel won the race ahead of Raikkonen and Grosjean. It was his first victory in a Grand Prix in his home country of Germany.

During a pit stop during the race the rear tire of the Formula 1 cars of Webber broke. The tire hit a cameraman present in the box. He was flown with broken bones and a concussion to a hospital in Koblenz.
