( 21655 ) Niklaus Wirth is one of the main asteroid belt, which by the Czech astronomer Lenka Sarounová at the observatory Ondřejov (IAU code 557 ) was discovered on the mountain Manda in Ondřejov in the Czech Republic on August 8, 1999.

The asteroid was named after the Swiss computer scientist Niklaus Wirth ( b. 1934 ). The Turing Award winner from 1984 to 1999 taught at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich as professor of computer science, where he developed, among others, the programming languages ​​Pascal, Modula -2 and Oberon and computer systems Lilith and Ceres.
