The lake of July 23, ( German Benghazi Lake, English Lake Benghazi, Arab بحيرة 23 يوليو ), is a 100 -acre lagoon in the adjacent to the Mediterranean at the Great Sirte Libyan city of Benghazi.
The average of two and a half meters, a maximum of five meters deep lagoon located between the center, the western suburban areas and the port. A small channel that leads north to the port area, spanning the 120 m long Imerfogaha - Geleanp Bridge, which connects Benghazi with Geleanp. The lake was once rich in fish, but was impacted by waste water from the 700,000 -inhabitant city since the 90s. Close to the bank, there are two hotels, a large hospital facility ( east of the tower on the right side ) and an extensive sports complex and stadium.
The name of the water body to commemorate the fall of the Egyptian King Farouk by Gamal Abdel Nasser on 23 July 1952.
