4 - ( 2,4- dichlorophenoxy ) butyric acid ( 2,4-DB or short ) is a chemical compound selected from the group of halogenated phenoxycarboxylic acids.

Properties

2,4-DB decomposes on heating above its melting point. It forms colorless, flammable crystals.

Use

In crop protection products, 2,4- DB is used as an active ingredient a selective herbicides ( for example soybeans and peanuts). The active metabolite, 2,4- dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, inhibits the growth of the tips of the stems and roots. His (usually more water soluble ) esters and salts (4 - (2,4- dichlorophenoxy ) butyrate ) are also used as herbicides. These are, for example, 2,4-DB - dimethylamine (CAS :2758 -42 -1), 2,4- DB isooctyl (CAS :1320 -15 -6) and 2,4- DB butoxyethanolester ( CAS: 32357-46-3 ).
