( 2636 ) Lassell is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on February 21, 1982 in Coconino County by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station (IAU code 688 ) of the Lowell Observatory.

The asteroid was named after the British amateur astronomer William Lassell (1799-1880), with the self-constructed telescopes of his observatory in Liverpool from 1846 to Neptune's moon Triton, 1848 Saturn's moon Hyperion and 1851, the Uranian satellites Ariel and Umbriel discovered.
