( 28196 ) Szeged is one of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered in northern Hungary on 15 December 1998 by the Hungarian Krisztián astronomers Sárneczky and László Kiss on the Piszkéstető station ( observatory code 561 ) of the Konkoly Observatory in the Matra Mountains.

The asteroid is named after the nearby along the lower reaches of the Tisza southern Hungarian city of Szeged, which goes back to the founded by the Romans Partiscum and in 1183 was the first documentary mention.
