Western Mediterranean

  • 283/282 BC: The Roman Empire conquered the Etruscans and the Gauls ( senones and Boii ) in the Battle of the Vadimonischen lake. The Romans occupy then the senonische area and establish the colony of Sena Gallica.
  • Roman victory over the Etruscans at Populonia. The Etruscans are obligated to military service
  • After the fighting with the Gauls, Etruscans and the Romans, the city of Thurii come to the rescue and defeat near under their consul Gaius Fabricius Luscinus the Lucanians whose commander Statius Statilius is captured. Rome laid garrisons in the Greek cities of Locri, Croton, Thurii, and Rhegium.
  • Autumn - A Roman fleet of ten ships passing the harbor of Taranto, even though it was banned under BC a Roman Tarentum contract from the year 303 the Romans to send ships to the Gulf of Taranto.
