( 2868 ) upupa is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered from the observatory room forest of the University of Berne on October 30, 1972 by Swiss astronomer Paul Wild.

The asteroid is named after the hoopoe (Latin genus name upupa ). Another named after the asteroid is Hoopoe ( 8586 ) Epops.
