(2979) Murmansk

( 2979 ) Murmansk is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered by the Ukrainian- Soviet astronomer Ljudmyla Schurawlowa on 2 October 1978 from the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroid, there had been at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj under the provisional designation 1976 HM already on 23 April 1976.

The mean diameter of the asteroid is assumed at 26 km. He has an albedo of 0.038, a very dark surface.

After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey ) was also assumed in ( 2979 ) Murmansk by a dark surface at a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel, it might be so, roughly speaking, be a C- asteroids.

( 2979 ) Murmansk was named after the city of Murmansk on 13 July 1984.
