3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine, is a chemical compound selected from the group of chlorinated benzidine derivatives.
Production and representation
3,3 '-dichlorobenzidine is obtained by reduction of o- nitrochlorobenzene, followed by rearrangement to the corresponding Hydrazobenzolderivat.
Properties
In its pure form it exists as a colorless solid, as a technical product as a light brown to violet- colored needles. It often occurs as a dihydrochloride in the trade. Thermal decomposition of nitrous gases and hydrogen chloride formed.
Use
3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine, is a large scale for the production of Diazotierungskomponente as azo pigments (for example, diarylide pigments, Pigment Yellow 12, Pigment Yellow 13 ) was used. Today, 3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine is no longer produced in Germany. The substance is not released from textiles or leather articles which may come a long time with the human skin directly in contact are (Appendix 1 of the Consumer Goods Ordinance ) after reductive cleavage of azo groups.
Safety
3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine is classified as carcinogenic category 2, including its salts. Although 3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine is produced and used on a large scale since about 1930, and one must assume that the security measures were previously deficient, epidemiological studies show no increased incidence of cancer in humans. 3,3 '- dichlorobenzidine seems to be an example that the carcinogenic effect of animal experiments can not be transmitted to humans.
