( 33553 ) Nagai is a main belt asteroid of the middle, which was discovered on 11 May 1999 by Japanese astronomers Tomimaru Okuni at the observatory in Nan'yō (IAU code 358), Yamagata Prefecture.

The asteroid was named on 18 March 2003 according to the site Nagai in Yamagata Prefecture. There was on May 30, 1922, a meteorite of type L6 ( olivine - hypersthene chondrite ) of 1810 grams in a rice field. The meteorite also received the official name Nagai.
