(3665) Fitzgerald

( 3665 ) Fitzgerald is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which on 19 March 1979 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) was discovered in Český Krumlov. An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroids had already given on January 30, 1941 (1941 BL) at the Observatory of the University of Turku.

The orbit of ( 3665 ) Fitzgerald to the sun as an additional 1,500 known asteroids a 2:1 resonance with that of the planet Mars. The largest of these asteroids ( 4) Vesta, (44 ) Nysa and (142 ) Polana, which are named after the asteroid groups in the resonance zone. Of the 1,500 asteroids orbit of ( 3665 ) Fitzgerald is particularly in sync with that of Mars.

The asteroid is named after the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. The appointment was made on a proposal from the astronomers Miloš Tichý and Brian Marsden of the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) on 28 August 1996. The lunar crater, however, Fitzgerald was named in 1970 after the Irish physicist George Francis FitzGerald.
