Greece

The refusal of Thebes, BC dissolve in accordance with the general peace of 375 the Boeotian Federation, leads on 5 July the battle of Leuctra against the Spartan phalanx. The Theban commander Epaminondas leads the Böoten by applying an oblique order to win. The Spartan king Cleombrotus I. is killed. Large share in the victory has also led by Pelopidas Sacred Band. The battle marks the end of the hegemony of Sparta in the Peloponnese and the beginning of the short Theban hegemony.

  • Agesipolis II is the new king of the Spartan Agiaden Dynasty.
  • Epaminondas led the founding of Megalopolis in Arcadia where the inhabitants are settled by 40 surrounding villages in order to create a political counterweight to Sparta.
