4- chloromercuribenzoic acid is an organic mercury compound, which is used as a protease inhibitor, especially in the application of biochemistry.
Biochemical Properties
PCMB react with SH groups ( thiol groups ) in the protein and is an inhibitor of enzymes which are dependent on an SH - reactivity. Inhibiting the cysteine protease papain, but also mammalian acetylcholinesterase.
Use
Due to its SH- reactivity, it is used in particular for titration quantification of thiol groups in proteins.
