( 4217 ) Engelhardt is a main belt asteroid that was discovered on January 24, 1988 by Carolyn Jean Spellman Shoemaker from the Palomar observatory. It has a diameter of about 9.2 kilometers and a relatively bright surface with an albedo of 0.2108.
The asteroid was named after the German geologist and mineralogist Wolf von Engelhardt.
