( 4498 ) Shinkoyama is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on January 5, 1989 by Japanese amateur astronomers Tsutomu Seki at Geisei Observatory (IAU code 372) in the prefecture Kōchi.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese solar physicist Shin Koyama (* 1927) named, who was for 30 years a professor at the University of Kagawa, Takamatsu in Kagawa Prefecture in March 1991 and retired.
