47th Volksgrenadier Division (Wehrmacht)

The 47th Volks Grenadier Division was a military major unit of the Wehrmacht in the German Reich.

History

On September 17, 1944 the unit to the training area wild spots ( Lower Franconia ) was erected from parts of which are still in preparation 577th Grenadier Division. Half of it was made up of donations from Air Force and Navy organizations. The age distribution was very heterogeneous with one third of recruits born between 1926/1927 and experienced Ostkämpfern.

As of October 6, 1944, the division was moved to Aarhus ( Denmark ) and should be usable until 31 October. On October 22, the headcount was 9,314 men, in case of failure of 837 men. Starting with the 9 November, the Division to Army Group B ( Western Front ) was set in motion. There it was used in the third Battle of Aachen. Here they suffered heavy losses. The second combat deployment of the division was that of December 11, 1944 lasting until January 5, 1945 participation in the Battle of the Hurtgenwald. By April, the division remained in the Rhine Palatinate and the Upper Rhine. On 14 April 1945, the division commander supported the peaceful surrender of the city of Ludwigsburg to the 1st French Army. The division headquarters and remnants withdrew to Tyrol. There they were in a battle group of the LXIV. Incorporated Army Corps, which defended the Fern Pass from 26 April to 2 May 1945.
