51 Pegasi

1.30 L ☉

51 Pegasi is a 50 light-years distant Sun-like star in the constellation Pegasus. Its apparent magnitude is 5.49 like so that it is just visible on dark nights even with the naked eye. 51 Pegasi is a yellow dwarf, whose age is estimated at about 8 billion years. He is almost 3 billion years older than the sun. Its mass is 4-6 % higher than that of the sun and consists of more metals than them, because its hydrogen stocks run out slowly. Its spectral type is G2.5V or G4 5va.

1995 was discovered by Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz of the Department of Astronomy at the University of Geneva by 51 Pegasi, the first planet outside our solar system ( extrasolar planet ) orbiting a Sun-like star. The planet named 51 Pegasi b is 0.46 Jupiter masses and orbits the star in 4.2 days at a distance of only 0.05 astronomical units (AU ).
