(5800) Pollock

(5800) Pollock is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which on 16 October 1982 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) was discovered in Český Krumlov. An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroid (1971 SA2) it had in 1971 given at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.

(5800) Pollock is part of the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after ( 24) Themis.

The asteroid is named after Jackson Pollock, an American Abstract Expressionist painters of the New York School. The appointment was made on a proposal from the Czech astronomer Jana Ticha by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) on 11 November 2000.
