( 6054 ) Ghiberti is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which was discovered on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten couple and Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld. The discovery came as part of the Palomar - Leiden Survey, which recorded by Tom Gehrels with the 120 - inch Oschin Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory field plates at Leiden University were screened.

The asteroid was named on 5 March 1996 by the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti, who with Luca della Robbia and Donatello among the founders of the early Renaissance in Florence. According to Luca della Robbia, the asteroid of the outer main belt ( 6057 ) Robbia is named after Donatello the asteroid main belt of the middle ( 6056 ) Donatello. In 1976, an impact crater was named in the southern hemisphere of the planet Mercury by Lorenzo Ghiberti: Mercury crater Ghiberti.
