( 6519 ) Giono is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 12 February 1991 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the Observatoire de Haute -Provence (IAU code 511).
The asteroid was named after the French novelist and playwright Jean Giono (1895 - 1970) appointed, preferably as the background of his works the landscape of Haute Provence used. From 1954 he was a member of the Académie Goncourt.
