( 6777 ) Balakirev is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 26 September 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code 809).

The asteroid was named after the Russian composer, pianist and conductor Mili Alexeyevich Balakirev (1837 - 1910) named, alongside Mikhail Glinka one of the pioneers of Russian national music.
