70 Virginis

70 Virginis is a 59 light -years away in the constellation Virgo Yellow Dwarf. It has an apparent magnitude of 5.0 mag and is therefore still be seen in starry nights just with the naked eye.

Is unusual about this star that he is very bright for its spectral type G5. This anomaly has also meant that the distance to this star was estimated long wrong. Only through measurements of the Hipparcos satellite, this value has been corrected.

In 1996, Geoffrey Marcy and R. Paul Butler discovered a massive celestial body orbiting 70 Virginis. This planet, which is one of the first extrasolar planets discovered, is called 70 Virginis b. Maybe, but it is also a so-called brown dwarf.
