(864) Aase

( 864) Aase is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on September 30, 1921 in Heidelberg by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth.

The asteroid was named after the eponymous character in Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.

( 864) Aase originally referred to another asteroid called ( 1078 ) Mentha. The latter was erroneously two terms, he was once discovered by Wolf in 1917, where he was given the provisional designation A917 CB, and 1926 again by Reinmuth, where he was given the provisional designation 1926 XB and not been detected as identical to A917 CB. From A917 CB eventually became ( 864) Aase, and from 1926 was XB ( 1078 ) Mentha. In 1958, it was found that the two objects were identical, and in 1974 it was eliminated in the A917 CB / 1926 XB the name ( 1078 ) Mentha retained, and the designation ( 864) Aase on the object 1921 KE went, they referred to today.
