( 947) Monte Rosa is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on February 8 in 1921 by German astronomer F. K. Arnold Schwassmann in Bergedorf.

The name of the asteroid is derived after the passenger ship MONTEROSA the Hamburg South American Steamship Company ( HSDG ), which used the University of Hamburg for expeditions to the North Sea. The asteroid was named on February 21, 1934 as part of a deep-sea travel to school at the University of Hamburg.
