94th Infantry Regiment (France)

The " 94e Régiment d'Infanterie " was an infantry association in the French army Situated as it was Régiment d' infantry de Royal Bavaria of the royal French army. Since it was a foreign regiment and for the most part consisted of foreigners, it was referred to in the French military jargon as régiment étranger ( Foreign Regiment ). It was ranked there last to 86th place of the Regiment list.

Construction

The regiment was established in 1706 during the War of Succession in Alessandria as the Association of kurbayerischen army and let the King of France on 1 January 1709. A regiment was the illegitimate (natural ) son of the Elector of Bavaria - called Emmanuel François- Joseph de Bavaria, Count of Bavaria. It was the last regiment that was taken in the French army during the reign of King Louis XIV in service. It originally consisted of two battalions, but received in 1715 the regiment d' infantry d' Hesse ( Hessen) incorporated and was reinforced in the course of the reorganization of the infantry in 1760 out of the former infantry regiment La Dauphine to a third battalion. In the ranking of the infantry regiments, it was ranked first at 101 place in 1757, it took the number 86.

  • In 1757 the regiment was assigned to the Army of the Lower Rhine under the command of Marshal d' Estrées. End of June of the same year it was with the bulk of the army in camp near Bielefeld. On July 26, it fought in the Battle of Hastenbeck, where it was divided into the anterior column of attack on the left wing. At the end of the regiment was in winter quarters in Vienenburg.

End of January 1758, the regiment was been detached to the Army, the. Of Louis XV was set up to assist in Bohemia, Austrian troops. However, when Ferdinand of Brunswick in February began its offensive to Bohemia, the French army withdrew to the Rhine. From 30 April to 4 May, it was in the second line of the army of the Count of Clermont in the fortified camp before Wesel. In July of the same year it was moved to the vicinity of Friedberg ( Hessen) where gathered the army of the Prince of Soubise. On July 23, 1758, the regiment was used in the Battle of Sandershausen in the front line of the center. It succeeded the Association stop the invading Hessian cavalry, who had previously beaten the French cavalry to flight.

Renaming and tradition

In 1780 the name of the regiment was changed, it was said from now on Régiment d' infantry Royal de Hesse -Darmstadt

During the French Revolution the army was reorganized in 1791, the regiments lost their names and were known only by numbers. The Association was called from now on only 94e Régiment d'Infanterie de ligne. This regiment existed until 1993, when it was dissolved.
