( 9592 ) Clairaut is an asteroid of the main belt of the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809 ) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered on April 8, 1991.
The asteroid was named after the French mathematician, physicist and geodesics Alexis -Claude Clairaut (1713-1765), who predicted the return of Halley 's comet for the year 1759 and graduated from the deviations between calculation and reality on the existence of an unknown celestial body.
