( 9969 ) Braille is one of the main asteroid belt asteroid, which was discovered on May 27, 1992 by Eleanor Helin and Kenneth J. Lawrence at Palomar Observatory.

The asteroid was named in honor of Louis Braille, the pioneer in the development of Braille, named.

Braille is between 1.334 ( perihelion ) astronomical units to 3,356 astronomical units ( aphelion ) on an elliptical orbit around the sun. The web is highly inclined to the ecliptic by 28.89 °, the orbital eccentricity is 0.431.

On 29 July 1999, the space probe Deep Space 1 passed the asteroid in just 28 km away. Due to a technical error, however, the automatic camera of the probe of the asteroid turned off, so no close-ups emerged. Only 15 minutes after the flyby - to this point, the probe had been removed to 13,500 mi - recordings could be created. They show an elongated celestial bodies of about 1 × 2 km in diameter.

The asteroid is assigned to the V- type and thus belongs to the group of Vestoids. Presumably it is a fragment of the large asteroid Vesta, which was separated in the past due to a collision with another celestial body.
