It is one of the best selling albums in the career of Barbra Streisand and one of the bestselling albums with Christmas songs ever. The album was honored by the RIAA with 5 platinum records. A Christmas Album appeared as Streisand's newest studio album Simply Streisand in October 1967. The cover photo was taken on June 16, 1967 during a rehearsal for their concert in Central Park. The songs on the first record side are popular American Christmas songs and Christmas standards that have been arranged and conducted by Marty Paich, the humorous, almost cabaret-style opening number of Jingle Bells is most striking. On the second side of the LP Barbra Streisand sings Christmas carols church, which were arranged and conducted by Ray Ellis.
