A Flair for the Dramatic is the debut album by the American post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil. It was released on June 26, 2007, after the first volume of the two musicians Vic and Mike Fuentes, Before Today, disbanded in the fall of last year.

The album consists of eleven songs and a bonus song on the download version of the album at iTunes. It is the first album that the musicians on Equal Vision Records published. It is also the only album that Pierce the Veil without the later musicians Jaime Preciado (bass ) and Tony Perry ( guitar ) recordings.

Production and publication

After Before Today dissolved in the fall of 2006, founded singer Vic and his younger brother Mike Fuentes, the band Pierce the Veil. However, since they could not find new musicians, they started on their own to write material for the debut album. The support of both Dave Yaden and Curtis Peoples, who are friends with the two musicians were given.

With producer Casey Bates, the duo went into the studio in early 2007 and recorded the album in a few weeks. The recordings took place in the Johnny Cab Studios and at The Tank Studio, both lying in Seattle, Washington, instead. The album was released on 26 June 2007 worldwide via Equal Vision Records, which took over the group in May 2007 under contract.

The band released two singles on the album. Yeah Boy and Doll Face was published in 2008, Chemical Kids and Mechanical Brides followed a year later. For the latter, a music video was made that was produced by Nate Weaver. The first music video of the band was to the song Currents Convulsive and was directed by Jeremy E. Jackson.

Shortly before the production of the album Jaime Preciado (bass ) and Tony Perry ( guitar ) joined the duo. Both played previously in the local metalcore band Trigger My Nightmare. On May 24, 2013 A Flair for the Dramatic released with Selfish Machines on record.

Title list

The music and lyrics were all composed and written by Vic and Mike Fuentes. In the pieces Falling Asleep on a Stranger, The Balcony Scene and Diamonds and Why Men Buy Them the two of Curtis Peoples and Dave Yaden were supported in writing the songs. The two should support Vic Fuentes later when writing the hit single King for a Day from the album Collide with the Sky.

On the Jawsome Summer Sampler, that among other things appeared on Rise Records, the piece on the CD is included. Since 2008 the group took part in the Warped Tour, the song Currents Convulsive can be found on the compilation.

Between 4 and 17 October was followed by a support tour for The Blackout, led by the United Kingdom. It was followed by two further concert tours across the United States, among others, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and From First to Last before the group first time in 2008 played on the Warped Tour. Reception

Torben ALLSCHOOLS Network of the group writes music on " high technichen level," what trends between the Emo, Screamo and progressive rock has to. Sebastian Wable by Ox- Fanzine is of the opinion that Pierce the Veil has done a really good job with A Flair for the Dramatic. So he rezisiert that the group " millions uninspired sounding emo band out of the way pushin ' and the album definitely an insider's tip of the month if not representing even the entire summer. Oliver Schneider of Powermetal.de shows, however, less enthusiastic about the album. He writes that albums like A Flair for the Dramatic is the reason why no other band with Emo wants to be associated. In Metal Hammer Album 5 of 7 possible points received.
