A Talent for Loving is a Western comedy from 1969, which has not been shown in the German language and was based on the eponymous story by Richard Condon. In the different rated by critics film Richard Widmark plays the lead role, directed by Richard Quine.

Action

Texas and northern Mexico, 1865: Former Major and professional card player Major William Patten is facing financial ruin. In order to stay afloat, he marries a rich Mexican lady whose family has been demonstrated, however, three hundred years ago with a curse. An Aztec priest who had to cut his own hand, condemned the Spanish conquistadors who beset him, and all their descendants to an insatiable love of greed, they even have physical love - even if it is just a kiss - tasted.

So Patten does not only compete with the rich landowners of the area and a Mexican bandit for the favor of the ladies, but must also set against the ever more demanding needs of womanhood to fight back.

Criticism

Hal Erickson called the comedy " uneasy, but edible ."

Comments

The work was later re-released as Gun Crazy. Supposedly, the film had already been planned in 1966 for The Beatles.
