A.C. Pisa 1909

The AC Pisa is an Italian football club based in the Tuscan city of Pisa.

It was founded in 1909 as Pisa Sporting Club ( SC or SC Pisa Pisa), re-established after a bankruptcy in 1994 and is now the largest football club Pisa. The club played seven seasons in Serie A, most recently in 1991, was a finalist in the Italian championship in 1921 and won the 1986 and the 1988 at this time already meaningless Mitropa Cup. Their home ground Stadio Arena Garibaldi - Romeo Anconetani holds 14,869 spectators.

History

The 1909 as Pisa Sporting Club (Pisa SC) based club played in 1921 for the first time by the Italian Championship, but lost it in the final. 1965, rose the first time in the B series. After only three years the rise took place in the Serie A, but where the club played only one season. After the 1968/69 season the team got back into the B series.

A short time later, the association found in the C series again and played there until 1979, until the re- promotion to the B series. As has already been a good ten years before the club again took only three years for the series to achieve. There, the club remained six years and reached there in the 1982/83 season in 11th place with the best end of the season the club's history. The following season the club was relegated again, after he had lost his last three games. But only a year later succeeded in 1985 again the promotion to Serie A, but in this case only for two seasons before the club again descent. 1986 and 1988, the club was able to win the Mitropa Cup. In two games Pisa was defeated by the U.S. Lecce and thus missing out on promotion. In the following season the club was relegated from the third last to the League in the third-class Lega Pro Prima Divisione. Due to the insolvency of the Association presented this file for bankruptcy and launched the 2009/10 season as AC Pisa 1909 a fresh start in Serie D. After only one season came with the rise in fourth-rate Lega Pro Seconda Divisione the return to professional football.

In August 2010 the club was ranked Pro Prima Divisione due to multiple forced descents of various clubs in the League.
