Aalsum, Friesland
Aalsum ( Frisian: Ealsum ) is a village in the municipality Dongeradeel in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located north of Dokkum and has about 150 inhabitants (2008 ).
History
Aalsum was built on a mound, but which is already partially removed. In addition, in Aalsum is a church dating back to 1200, which is dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria.
During the Second World War were carried arms shipments to Aalsum. These were dropped on a farm near the church. Although only 2 kilometers away was a Post of the Wehrmacht, the arms shipments were not detected.
