Aaron Columbus Burr

Aaron Columbus Burr (* 1808, † July 27, 1882 in New York ) was an American entrepreneur.

Life

Burr, born in France, was probably an illegitimate son of Aaron Burr, the third Vice President of the United States, who had fled in 1808 after a trial for treason to Europe. About 1813, according to other sources in 1816, he succeeded his father in the United States. Here "adopted " the father his child, and spread the words, the boy was the son of a French count " Verdi de Lisle " and entrusted to him for instruction; this version can still be found in the obituary for Aaron C. Burr in the New York Times of 28 July 1882. Burr attended boarding school in Bergen, New Jersey and later in New York, a successful jeweler.

In 1860 he forged together with Anna Carroll a plan in British Honduras to build (today Belize) a colony for former American slaves and presented it to Abraham Lincoln. However, the outbreak of the Civil War made these plans obsolete. From the project, but the American Honduras Company, which was active in the British colony, especially in the mahogany trade developed.

Burr died in 1882 in New York. His papers are kept in the library of Yale University.
