Abdallah Khalil

Abdullah Khalil (Arabic: عبد الله خليل ʿ Abdullāh Khalil, also sometimes spelled Khalil; * 1888 ( );? † 1970) was Prime Minister from 1956 to 1958 Sudan.

Soldier

Khalil was ( according to other sources 1891 or 1892), born in 1888 in the Egyptian region of Nubia and belonged to the tribe of Kanuz. In 1910 he entered a Sudanese Battalion of the Egyptian Army and was transferred to the newly formed Sudanese army in 1925. During his military career, he was promoted as the first Sudanese to brigadier general ( Miralai ). In 1944 he retired from the army.

Politician

In 1945 he was one of the founders of the Umma Party and entered against membership in the Sudan to Egypt. His goal was to achieve independence in cooperation with Britain. He became general secretary of the party and appointed to the Executive Council of the Sudan. Since 1948 he was a member of the Legislative Council and took over the Ministry of Agriculture. After the election victory of the National Unionist Party ( NUP ) of Ismail al - Ash'ari 1953 Khalil went into opposition. On January 1, 1956 Sudan became independent. As some of the leading people of the NUP left the party, including Ali al - Mirghani, he was born on July 5, 1956 Prime Minister of a coalition government. For the general elections in February 1958 his party went with 68 of the 173 seats and became the strongest force.
