Abdul Hamid (field hockey)

Abdul Hamid ( born January 7, 1927 in Bunno, Sindh ) is a former Pakistani hockey player. The outstanding striker of the Pakistani national team participated in four Olympic Games, in part, won two Olympic medals and scored 200 international goals.

Pakistan was on 14 August independence in 1947, a year later Pakistan first participated in the Olympic Games. 1948 in London and 1952 in Helsinki, the Pakistani hockey team took fourth place respectively, in Melbourne in 1956 succeeded the finals and after a 0-1 defeat against India with the first Olympic silver medal win. After the team had beaten for the first time at the Asian Games 1958 India in a major tournament, the team with Abdul Hamid won as team captain also in Rome in 1960 1-0 over the Indians.

His main job Abdul was a member of the Pakistani army in which he reached the rank of major during his active career.
