Abell 3266

Abell 3266 is a galaxy cluster in the southern sky. Its name goes back to George Ogden Abell, which created a catalog of galaxy clusters, the Abell catalog, in the Abell 3266 is listed.

He is part of the Horologium - Reticulum supercluster and contains hundreds of galaxies. He is one of the largest in the southern sky and one of the largest mass concentrations in the nearby universe.

Abell 3266 shows the late phase of a merger between two galaxy clusters. Here, the smaller of the two moves at a speed of 750 km / s near the center of the larger and provides a strong heating of this region.
