Aberdare

Aberdare (Welsh Aberdar ) is an industrial town in Rhondda Cynon Taf local government district in the county of Glamorgan in South Wales.

It has about 36,000 inhabitants and is characterized by the resident iron industry and coal mining (see also: Tower Colliery ).

Like many cities in South Wales, the city developed in the 19th and early 20th century by leaps and bounds. The inhabitants, who had in 1801 still amounted to 1,486, increased tenfold in the next fifty years.

The biggest convention center, the Coliseum, which was built in 1936 by subscriptions of miners. Aberdare is home to the Stereophonics.
