Abijatta-Shalla-Nationalpark

The National Park Abijatta - Shalla Lakes (also - Shala ), named after the two lying in the Lakes National Park, is an Ethiopian nature reserve in the area of ​​the Great Rift Valley, the East African grave breach. The park is located about 200 km south of Addis Ababa in the Oromia region. He was expelled in 1963 and has a size of 887 square kilometers, of which 482 square kilometers are water surfaces. The main reason of his protected status was the preservation of the rich water bird populations who use the lakes for foraging and breeding.

Geographical and climatic conditions

The park is located at an altitude of about 1540 to 2075 meters, where the Mount Fike is the highest elevation. It is situated between the two lakes. The temperatures reach up to 45 degrees Celsius in summer. In the rainy season from March to September fall up to 500 mm of precipitation.

Fauna

About 30 species of mammals hold on here, including the Great Kudu, Grant 's Gazelle, the cliff divers and the golden jackal.

More than 400 bird species have been established in the National Park, almost half of all identified species in the country, including six endemic species. Notable species include, without limitation the white pelican, flamingo, fish eagle and osprey. At walking bird species, among others come Marabu, the Goliath heron and the great blue heron before, waders are represented, for example, with ruffs, plovers and beach runners.
