Abner Lewis

Abner Lewis ( born August 17, 1801 Rutland County, Vermont, † October 11, 1879 in Winona, Minnesota ) was an American politician. From 1845 to 1847 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Abner Lewis attended the public schools of his home. In addition, he has also studied law, as this is a prerequisite for the later exercised by him legal professions. In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party was founded at that time. In 1838 and 1839 he sat as an MP in the New York State Assembly.

In the congressional elections of 1844 Lewis was in the 31 electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Asher Tyler on March 4, 1845. Until March 3, 1847, he was able to complete a term in Congress. This was marked by the events of the Mexican-American War.

Between 1847 and 1852 worked as a District Judge Abner Lewis. He then practiced as a lawyer in Winona. There he is on October 11, 1879 and passed away.
