Abrantes [ ɐbɾɐtɯʃ ] is one Municipio and a city in Portugal with about 14,800 inhabitants.
Geography
Abrantes is on a hill next to the river Tagus; the city dominates the entire valley of Bellver ( Gavião district ) in the west to Constância.
History
Abrantes was raised in 1916 to the city. It is believed that the city is of Celtic origin. The name comes from the Latin word Aurantes, which could indicate that there was once a lot of gold to Abrantes.
Management
The metropolitan area covers the two communes São João and São Vicente.
Municipio Abrantes
Abrantes is the capital of the municipios of the same name. Neighbors are in the north of Vila de Rei, Sardoal and Mação, in the east Gavião, in the south of Ponte de Sor and the west Chamusca Constância, Vila Nova da Barquinha and Tomar.

Of Abrantes is a city, consisting of the municipalities of São João and São Vicente. The community Tramagal has the status of a small town ( vila ).
Traffic
Abrantes was the first stop of the railway line Linha do Leste, which resulted in Badajoz to the border with Spain.
