Academia Catarinense de Letras

The Academia de Letras Catarinense (ACL ) ( German: Santa Catarinensische Academy of Letters ) is a Brazilian Literature Society of the State of Santa Catarina, based in Florianópolis, which was established on January 30, 1924, following the example of the National Academia Brasileira de Letras.

Objectives

Your goal is to take care of the Brazilian language and literature. It is the most academy of its kind in the State of Santa Catarina for the Brazilian Portuguese and puts its focus according to their statutes on the literary life, the dialect and the protection of the cultural values ​​of the State of Santa Catarina.

History

After the First World War was created in the wake of the literary aspirations of the Brazilian modernist intellectuals in 1920 in Florianópolis, the Sociedade de Letras Catarinense, from 1924, the Academy has emerged. These writers grouped around the monthly magazine Revista de artes e letras. Unlike other Brazilian literary academies also writers as founding members ( Fundadores ) and members were recorded from the outset. Elected members remain so for life, the number is limited to 40 members.

The Academy now has its headquarters in the Centro de Cultura Integrado Professor Henrique da Silva Fontes in Florianópolis.

The ACL is not to be confused with the ACLA, founded in 2003, the Academia de Letras e Artes Catarinense.
