Accumoli

Accumoli is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, located about 682 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 142 km northeast of Rome and 68 km north-east of Rieti.

Geography

Accumoli located in the upper valley of the Tronto, on the Via Salaria at the foot of the Monti della Laga. It is the northernmost municipality in the province of Rieti. The municipality is part of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga.

Accumoli is a member of the Comunità Montana del Velino.

The municipality consists of the villages of Cassino, Casaventre, Colleposta, Collespada, Fonte del Campo, Grisciano, Ilica, Libertino, scrub, Casoli Poggio, Poggio D' Api, Rocca Alli, San Giovanni, Terracino and Villanova.

The nearby towns are Amatrice, Arquata del Tronto (AP ), Cittareale, Norcia (PG), Valle Castellana (TE ).

The municipality of Accumoli is crossed by the Via Salaria SS 4, which leads from Rome over Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast at Porto d' Ascoli.

History

Accumoli was founded in the 12th century. The village belonged until 1860 to the Kingdom of Naples. In 1927, she came from the province of Aquila degli Abruzzi to the province of Rieti, and thus to Lazio.
