Acene
Acenes include in chemistry to a class of organic compounds, more specifically the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons consisting of linearly fused ( condensed ) benzene rings. The major representatives are potentially interesting for optoelectronic applications and currently the subject of chemical and electronic research. Pentacene was incorporated in organic transistors, charge mobilities with up to 5 cm2 · V-1 · s -1.
The first six unsubstituted acenes are listed in the table:
The higher representatives, hexacene and heptacene, are very reactive ( unstable) and can only be isolated in a matrix. However, bis ( trialkylsilyl) are ethynylierte derivatives of hexacene and heptacene stable and can be isolated as crystalline solids.
Larger acenes
Due to the increasing amount of conjugated π - electron system are larger acenes a current research topic. Acene can also be starting materials for the production of nanotubes, etc.. Unsubstituted octacene ( n = 8) and Nonacen (n = 9 ) were isolated and characterized in the matrix. A stable substituted Nonacen also been reported.
Isomers
Structural similarity with the linear structure acenes possess 1,2 -fused helicenes helically constructed.
