Achlada, Crete

Achlada (Greek Δημοτικό διαμέρισμα Αχλάδας ) is a community in Crete. It belongs to the district of the municipality of Gazi Malevizi. Administrative seat is the place Achlada.

History

The place name is derived from the name of a wild pear ( αχλάδα ή αχράς ). In the Venetian archives, the village is mentioned under the name Aclada with 63 residents. At that time it belonged to the province Mylopotamou in Rethymno Prefecture.
