Ackeburg

The Ackeburg, also called Ackenburg, the resin is a castle stable of a high medieval hilltop castle at 333.2 m above sea level. NN in the urban area of Falkenstein / Harz in the district of Harz, Saxony- Anhalt. It was first mentioned in 1216 and is since 1400 as abandoned or destroyed. There was also the village Akkeburg.

Geographical location

The Postal Ackeburg is located in the eastern Harz part of the Mansfeld region between Mägdesprung (northern district of Harzgerode ) and Meis village ( south-western district of Falkenstein / Harz) up on a hill ( 333.2 m above sea level. NN ) north above the valley of the Selke. In forested landscape of the Harz Nature Park / Saxony -Anhalt it is in the nature reserve Selketal about 3.7 km southwest of the village church of Meis village.

About 1.2 km south-west of the castle barn Old Falkenstein and about 1 km is located southeast Falkenstein Castle ( New Falkenstein ) - both sides of the Selketal.

History and investment

The Ackeburg was first mentioned in 1216 AD as the seat of Burgmannen of the Count of Falkenstein. It applies, as well as the once at or very near the Burgdorf Akkeburg, nothing of which is available since 1400 as abandoned or destroyed. Owners of the castle were the masters of Ackeburg.

The castle, which consisted of the main and fore-castle with moat and several walls, had a standing on a rocky hill main castle of about 30 m in diameter. Above it, in the direction of the highest point of the hill, stood an approximately 11 m wide outer bailey. Nowadays the castle stables are still parts of moat and cross wall to see.

Viewpoint and Hiking
