Acolman is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the conurbation around Mexico City. The seat of the municipality is Acolman de Nezahualcóyotl, with more than 100,000 inhabitants but by far the largest place of Municipalities is Tepexpan. The municipality had in the year 2010 123.024 inhabitants, its surface area is 84.1 km ².

The name comes from the Nahuatl Acolman: acolli means water, and maitl meaning "hand ", roughly "place of hand."

Geography

Acolman located in the north of the state of Mexico, 52 km north-east of Mexico City.

The municipality borders the municipality municipios Tecámac, Teotihuacan, Tepetlaoxtoc, Chiautla, Tezoyuca, Ecatepec de Morelos and Atenco.
